7th May: Dan has been released today! After nearly 8 months in jail... FREEDOM We should expect Dan arriving in London in the next couple of days! We will post the arrival time of his fligth here so you can welcome him at the airport! :)
24th March: We have the decision of the judge today: 2 months sentence... 2 more months after nearly 6 months already in jail!
22nd March: email received from India about Dan's Horses Dear Sir, This is in reference to the news item published in TOI, New Delhi edition titled Journey to China ends in Indian jail dated:March 21,2007.
Mr Robinson, a British citizen wandered into Indian territory at Lapthal checkpost of ITBP with two equids in October, 2006.Both equids were immediatly taken into the custody a veterinarian Dr TAKE CHAN, posted at Joshimath and jointly examined by Dr N S Negi, Civil Veterinary Officer, Joshimath. As per the provisions of the livestock importation act,1898 were not allowed to mixed up with local equids.
The equids are healthy and still in the custody of ITBP.Mr Robinson was equally worried for wellbeing of his animals and during trail of the case inquired where about of his animals. Mr Robinson is true animal lover and diserve mercy during trail.

20th March: Latest news of Dan's appeal in Gopeshwar! Today Dan's case went to appeal. Justina (Dan's daughter) and Adam (Dan's brother) were there to support his legal team and to a packed courthouse, containing cameras and reporters from Indian national press and television, our lawyers, Mr Sahoo and Mr Pujari, eloquently pleaded for Dan's release. “They were fantastic!” Justina told me on the phone just now. “It went so well and the whole place was mesmerised! The prosecution was asking for a ten year sentence, but our lawyers, our petition and the assembled press really made the judge sit up and listen. It was so much better than that awful hearing we went to at Christmas. They think, when the appeal reconvenes on 24th March, that they will set my dad free!” So we can't yet be sure... It still hangs in the lap of the gods. We are trying to get a message in to Dan to tell him what went on, via Mr. Sahoo, and we are feeling cautiously optimistic. So keep your fingers crossed still, all you lovely, caring people, who have done so much to see that Dan's case is recognised as an injustice that puts all our rights and values in question. We would never have got this far without your help!
10th March: Happy Birthday Dan! Sorry you have to spend this one behind bars, but remember, we are looking out for you. There are over 2,000 of us on the petition, your name has spread throughout the spiders web of the world as pilgrim, long rider and adventurer. All you have to do is stay strong, be true to yourself and delay your birthday party until after the 20th! And what a party it will be . . . 6th March: Support from Russian EQUILAW company "On behalf of Russian equestrian law-company “Equilaw” we are sending our support and hope to Daniel. That is awful what's happened to him. We truly believe that this problem is going to be solved soon. He's proved to everyone his high morality standards and his kind heart while saving lives of 2 innocent animals. 28th feb: Support from Terry Waite Terry Waite, internationally renowned humanitarian who many will remember visited Beirut as a hostage negotiator and was taken and held prisoner in Beirut for over four years, today sends the following message of support to Dan:

23rd feb: Three new letters of support: British Horse Society President Noel Edmonds pleads for release of imprisoned Long Rider. International Equestrian Francesca Kelly petitions President of India to free Daniel Robinson. Equestrian Journalist Tom Moates calls on Indian Government to liberate rider and horses.
17th Feb: news from Deco who just visited Dan: "He is now sharing a cell with another 150 prisoners, he is sleeping on the floor and get very cold during the night...very strange to fell that energy, i can't stop to thinking about that...very sad to see him there. His health now is much better, no asthma and he was very happy about all this campaign and help, he told me send his love for all of you and he never imagine to have friends like you all...he also ask to do whatever to put the press on this case, is the best pressure..."
16th feb: An American Long Rider, Lucy Leaf, has heroically volunteered to fly to India at her own expense to check on the horses. 16th Feb: The famous Scottish Long Rider and author, George Patterson, has nominated Daniel Robinson to become a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society ! George is still known as "Patterson of Tibet" because of his ride across the Himalayas during the winter of 1949 to alert the world to the fact that China had invaded the hermit kingdom.

The Long Riders' Guild editorial about Dan http://www.thelongridersguild.com/word05.htm Dan is now in Haridwar jail (6hrs express train ride from Dehli) so is not so remote any more.
His appeal on 1st March will be held up in Gopeshwar (8hrs jeep ride from Haridwar, which Dan probably won't be allowed to attend himself.) He was moved from Pauri jail shortly after press coverage in India got off the ground. |
